We Gordons have to stick together so I like to note when I notice other Gordons in the news.  Here is Paul Krugman praising Gordon Brown's action in addressing the finacial crisis.  Basically Gordon Brown goes straightforwardly to the cash for equity solution that Paulson on our side of the pond has resisted.  Perhaps his Goldman-issued pillaging cutlass has gotten a bit rusty in his time in the Bush administration.

Maxim announced today that it is buying Mobilygen so lets take a quick look at the leadership history of the company.  CEO today is Chris Day, who was promoted into the role, unusually for a startup, from the VP Sales position in August of 2007.  Professionally I'm not supposed to, but I always like to see people promoted from within an organization to the top role.  Although I make my living on it, one of the flaws of our system is that too frequently one must change companies to have one's worth recognized.  Ending that rant before it gets into full swing, let's note the companies previous history.  Day, in his first ever CEO role, followed Joseph Perl, who was brought on from outside in 2001 and is still Executive Chairman.  He had earlier sold a company to Intel for "close to $1.6 billion".   Why the board decided to make the change I don't know, but it looks like it was a good one.

Ouch.  The Entellium story sounds painful for all involved.  If you haven't seen it yet it seems the CEO and CFO at least have been inflating their revenues since 2004, including to the board and new investors they've got since then.  I have some sympathy for these two (of course I didn't invest $50 million in them) given the regular misrepresnetation of revenues, product readiness, etc. etc. for public consupmtion that are a normal and investor aproved part of startup life.  To an investor no doubt lying to investors (or should I say "being optimistic"?) seems very different than lying to everybody else but from other perspective is may seem less so.  Unfortunately for these two it is legally quite different as well.
